Top 5 Meals in KL

Because the main reason we all travel is food, right? Or is that just me?

Despite being in the heart of bustling Malaysia, I struggled hardcore in finding real, authentic Malaysian food (Aside from the beef noodles). After a bit of reflection and research I realised that because Malaysia has always been such a melting pot of all Asian cultures, there really inst anything that is stereo typically ‘Malaysian’ and therefore I have compiled my best-of-the-best food that KL has to offer!

1. Beef Noodles @ Soong Kee’s Beef Ball Noodles

These noodles were AH-MAZE-ING! Walkable distance from the train station and a great feed, this place is definitely worth trying out! (However, getting there and working out what I wanted is a TOTALLY different story!).

FAAAAABULOUS noodles with some unknown soup :/

2. Uttapam

Made from the same batter as dosa, this is like a giant crumpet (if you don’t know what this is, look it up-it will change your life!). The batter is poured on the hot plate and then onions, coriander and tomato are sprinkled on the batter and then you get deliciously warm, sweet samba to dip the bread into. YUM YUM YUM!

3. Idli

Now, Idli has a WHOLE other level with me and to taste an idli which was full of flavour and delicately made was incredible! I probably should also mention that between me last having idli, my friend from India taught me how to eat it properly.

So you don’t do with it, what you do with dosa or uttapam. You actually break off a piece of the rice dough and let it sit in the samba for a feew minutes so it can ‘soak’. After that, you use a sppoon or a fork to eat it. If you just do the dipping thing, you’ll hate idli as much as I used to, trust me.

4. Dosa

Self-explanatory right? Its a savory pancake. What more could you ever want fro the food world?!

The flavours in this one in particular from Seetharam took me straight back to my time in South India. The favours were authentic and sharp and it was the perfect meal to make me feel ‘happy full’. The way we discovered this restaurant is rather funny-see  it here!

Dosa (MY FAV FOOD OF ALL TIME)

5. Putu

I never even knew this type of food existed and I made sure I went back every day to get some! It is a weird dough like thing which has bits of coconut and palm sugar (or brown sugar?) in clumps throughout it!

This combination of ingredients is then steamed in a little bamboo sheath, rolled in more coconut and then served to locals first before tourists, so wait your turn!
